Fun x Awesome

I find that a lot of art that I see is very serious, and deals with serious issues. However, every once in a while I find it just as important to have a little fun and not take yourself too seriously. These images were taken during a period where I was sick with the flue and needed some cheering up. A smile creeps across my face when I look at them, as they make me reminisce about the imagined adventures I had in my childhood.

Hong Kong = Mountain x2

These are some pictures I took while I was in Hong Kong during my trip to Asia in October. Hong Kong is a very unique place, and I think everybody should go at least once. Every building in Hong Kong is more or less a high rise built into the side of a mountain. Furthermore the buildings are also packed full of people living in tight quarters. My experience in Hong Kong was reminiscent of New York, in that kind of money hungry commercial rat race sorta way. The best way for me to describe it in words, is that Hong Kong is like a mountain built on top of a mountain = a Mountain x2.

Midnight Magic

I went out photographing the elementary school by my parent's house earlier this week. This was the school that I went to for grades K-5, during which time I seem to only remember being bullied by kids and being a bully myself (funny how the universe works out). However, I do vividly remember being a kid and complaining with my fellow playground tyrants about how school was like a prison, mostly because school sucked, or at least that seem to be the cool thing to say at the time.

I have been photographing more of my friends recently playing around with some portraiture ideas. While my normal approach to portraiture consists mostly of environmental portraits, I am trying to approach the process more with more fun added into the mix. Here is a portrait of my friend Donny, who's currently working as a computer engineer of sorts.

Here are some pictures from Game Unicon 2009 held on August 22-33, where hundreds of gamers gathered to pit their hardened skills against each other in games such as: Street Fighter 4, Halo, and Super Smash Brothers (both Melee and Brawl)! Who says gamers are antisocial???

Unemployed Friends

Moving back to the town that I grew up in has been somewhat of a shock to me. Growing up in a middle class suburb, I feel like my former classmates and myself grew up with the notion that we would all become "successful" with 9 - 5 jobs when we graduated from college. Instead, I returned home after my 5 year absence in college to find that many of my high school friends still remained unemployed, and living with their parents. It kinda feels like high school again, only I don't have go to class or hide to drink beer. Here are a few of their pictures.

New Work

Here are some shots I have taken in and around my parents house. For those of you who are familiar with my work, I guess you could say that this is a continuation of my Ricehouse/Blue Days series. Hope you enjoy!
